Why did I find this such a satisfying read? Certainly it was well written, had me turning the pages and not wanting to put it down until I finished it. I loved the sense of geographic familiarity, talking about places I was familiar with in Melbourne. The change of scene to Vienna and to America gave sense to the book, and added to my understanding about the lives of the characters. Each person in the story was human, and exhibited flaws, yet I remained sympathetic to each one. There was one I had no sympathy with, and he was the lawyer in charge of the complex legal tangle that was the crux of the book and the cause of the title.

I'm going to read the author's first book as soon as I can get my hands on it, and then wait for the ones to follow.
