One of the best and important movies ever made.

I was surprised at how disappointed I was in watching this film again - its almost all action, very little drama, and the acting was noticeably bad. The writing and the plot was downright childish. Nevertheless, it brought back some pleasant memories. (Contrary to other commentators, this is not a science fiction, its a space opera.)

Good to watch this again to prepare for viewing Rogue One. It was fun to see how 70s it is, but it still stands up.

I was advised to watch episode IV in order to understand Rogue One, is this true? Hopefully it is because I am a Gen X parent taking my Gen Z son to see it (or wait for the video)....he loved Star Wars Awakens due to that orange and white android, the amazing and pretty lead actress, and the extremely talented actor who played the death trooper with a conscience, lol!

Star Wars is the furnace in the nostalgia factory of Generation X. If you want to understand us, that is, your mother and father (I don't know why you would, but if you did) you'd want to begin your research right here. This is one of those rare films that gets a historical thumb tack on Hollywood's cork board: pre-Star Wars/post-Star Wars. You may laugh at its archaic boy-saves-girl plot, its ham-fisted acting, and its aging special effects, but you'll have a hard time trying to convince anyone from my generation that Star Wars isn't one of the greatest movies of all time. It's our totem. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds us together. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have one small aside for Mr. Lucas. Why, Mr. Lucas, WHY did you monkey with our nostalgia? New CGI and new scenes? You besmirched your own masterpiece. There are nuggets of historical interest in there, but the majority of your fiddling is ill-conceived claptrap aimed at children, which might have worked except you've forgotten that children aren't stupid.

My 2nd favorite out of the whole franchise. You can't beat the amazing effects and the timeless characters.

It was one of the first Star Wars I saw as a child (besides the prequels that were coming out around this time) and I remembered it as I grew up to being a teen. It is pretty dated but the storyline is a classic. The characters are classic and the first glimpse of Vader is timeless bad-guy entering the film. I love this film very much but I don't think I could watch it over and over and over and over again due to the simple storyline and dated technology. But still a timeless childhood film that I'll always remember.

Violence: Lightsaber battles, a hand is chopped off in a bar (a little blood spatter on the floor is seen), a beloved character dies but is pretty light.
