Like most good movies, it is the relationships and human condition that make it worth watching.

Catness and that Chris guy stuck on a spaceship heading to a destination in the far future. A malfunction wakes them early and Adam and Eve story begins kinda. Luckily the spaceship accidently wakes up Cowboy Curtis too as he has the authority to access everything they need to survive. Beautifully filmed and cast. Engaging love story.

A romance, love/hate story aboard a spaceship headed for a distant galaxy and planet. The first half of movie moved much too slow, remaking the Robinson Crusoe role. Even after he awakens Aurora, watching them dine and dance, etc. took much too long. Being the mechanical engineer that he is, he swings a great sledgehammer to fix things. Not the most practical scientific problem-solving methods seen in this movie. Too many things assumed in the operation of the ship and expecting the automation would never break down. Gave a great opportunity for the stars of the film to come to the rescue. With 5200+ passengers and crew unreal that the medical department had only 1 autodoc bed to care for all these folks, with 4 months of travel expected after they were awakened.

Beautiful visuals and CGI. All in all, glad I didn't pay big bucks to see this in theatre, but watched on DVD from library. Worth the time spent watching, however. Better than a lot of TV fare available.

Huh. I guess I'm not TOTALLY surprised to see such division in the responses. I imagine a big part of the backlash was due to expectations. With those 2 leads and with the flashy trailers, people likely expected an action movie. It's not. An introspective, occasionally quite dark, occasionally quite philosophical --and often deeply psychological-- drama about isolation, mortality, and how far someone may go if trapped in a desperate situation for too long. Once I accepted the sort of movie I was watching, I was quite impressed at how they handled it. I found it thought-provoking, and I felt deeply for each character's plight (such as the guy who gets a medical checkup and learns he is dying about a hundred different ways at once). I don't think this movie deserves most of the negative criticism. But I do think the people who MARKETED this movie blundered terribly by promising a very different kind of film.

Well. That was cute. Not sure I’m a fan of Chris Pratt or Jennifer Lawrence. Do they make movies like this to further actors careers or is there a story to tell? Why can’t Hollywood figure out, like HOB, Netflix, Amazon, etc. that “stars” are not necessary for excellent shows. Look at Deadwood, Six Feet Under, The Wire, Kings, etc. Many solid, unknown actors add to the story telling without getting caught up in who they are. Don’t need any more Tom Cruise, Will Smith, Emma Stone, Robert Downey Jr., Dwayne Johnson, Scarlett Johansen, Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie, and on and on, to make great film.
Anyway, a repeat story told in space. Liked the visuals. Lucky you don’t need the crew or a science background to fix or understand how a humongous space ship works. You just need a couple of hotties to figure it out. Good to know.

It wasn't the best movie I've ever seen. Maybe 5 to 10 minutes of it had interesting parts. If I had 3 thumbs, 2 would be down and the third would be waffling.

This drama/science-fiction film combines classic Hollywood stories with a typical forbidden romance. While flying through space, Aurora and Jim wake up decades too early and find themselves alone on the ship full of thousands of sleeping people. This leads to them falling in love (like any other time that a man and a woman are left alone according to movies) until they realize that the ship is in danger. I personally found the movie to be very dramatic which took away from what it could have been. I was disappointed in this film given the reputations that the leading actors Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt have, and found their performances to be unusually lackluster. I would rate this movie a generous 2.5/5 stars. @THe_Reviewer of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

I enjoyed the movie. It was much better than I was expecting. Had my full attention. Jennifer Lawrence is always good. A nice love story in space.

If you like special effects you'll like this. Green screen heaven.

Wow, Amazing. Stunning visuals and a script that flows from start to finish. One of the best science fiction movies ever made. Five stars.

. A large spaceship moving along. Enters asteroid (cloud?) with out alerting crew! It's zapping force field happily does its thing but one gets through, causing a power drop that causes one hibernation bed to stop & wakes passenger Jim. He goes looking for someone in charge. Briefed by Hologram, on spaceship's destination to planet colony, a setup by Home-planets Ltd.

. Very oddly, there are no large red levers labeled "Pull in Emergency", to have system wake emergency crew to help anyone out. An obvious design flaw! Perhaps the designers were told by their statistician the chances of such being needed were 10 to power -1,000,000,000 & therefore not worth the 0.01% extra on the price of the spaceship. Jim uses large messaging device to tell Hp his plight. It displays a reply will take (75?) years.

. More oddly, despite crew & passengers all being in hibernation, the fully automated restaurant & a great many shops are all open!? Jim befriends (after a style) an algorithm driven android barkeep, upgrades himself (via break in) to King Class, plush suet. Takes up boozing. Space walks, once while very drunk & forgetting to tether to the ship! He looks very much to be Lost in Space but fortunately, the algorithm driven android barkeep is able to prevail upon an algorithm driven automated sweeping unit to go & sweep Jim back in.

. He decides to see what he can do for himself & reads up the operating manuals of the hibernation units, among other things. Learns these can't initiate hibernation - has to be done by another m/c. He decides to wake another passenger, Aurora. They enjoy a dinner date, followed by space walk - under the watchful camera of the algorithm driven automated sweeping unit.

. Aurora then gets really angry with Jim. All is not lost, however. The Electrostatic Discharge from the asteroid that got through the zapper force field has been wandering around the spaceship, upsetting systems & causing them to dysfunction. Again, none of them execute the algorithm to wake & ALERT THE CREW ! ! Perhaps this was cut, also, to save 0.01% extra on the price of the spaceship! Again, on the advice of said Statistician?!

. More systems fail. Aurora finds herself trapped in a floating big ball of water, when it floats up (or down?) from the pool.

. Hopefully, Jim & Aurora don't have to flag down any Alien Ships to get help. Especially that one that carried the Alien Eggs onto that colonized planet - then went on to give Ripley so much TROUBLE. Well, I guess I better quit here, with out issuing any spoilers. AT least I didn't have to intervene to stop anyone being stabbed. Hopefully to - this wont take 75 years to reach you guys.
