I enjoyed this movie it was an excellent movie to watch because it was based on a true story that happened in real life. However I though it was going to be a Rated-R movie because of the violence, coarse language, and sexuality it had.

I knew this DVD was about Thurgood Marshall, but didn’t know if it was biographical or a story about his legal career. It is actually about a case early in his career when he was an attorney for the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). He is tasked to represent an African-American man who is accused of raping a white socialite woman in Connecticut. He connects with a local CT attorney to get him to petition the CT court for admission, but the court denies the motion and so Marshall pairs with the CT attorney Sam Friedman who is white, Jewish and practices civil litigation – insurance fraud, to jointly represent the defendant. The judge has not admitted Marshall and will not allow him to speak in court. The film probably based in the late 1930s or early 1940s showcases the bias against blacks and Jews during the era and showcases individuals willing to fight or challenge a system, a society that denies civil rights, equal rights and/or basic justice. The film is basically a trial, so lots of talking, but interesting if you enjoy legal drama. Thurgood Marshall, of course went on to be the first African American appointed as a judge to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1967.

The movie entitled Marshall stars Chadwick Boseman who is the super hero in the current blockbuster hit "Black Panther". "Marshall" is about Thurgood Marshall the first black person tobcome a supremecourt judge in U.S.A. The real life rape trial that made him famous is enaqcted. I won't spoil the ending. It is stranger than fiction. I gave "Marshall" five stars.

We liked the movie and found it informative. I now have a better understanding of the NAACP and the wonderful work it does. I am also more impressed with Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall and what he accomplished and the work he did. This was an interesting week for us when it comes to movies, two days ago we watched the movie Detroit and this evening we watched Marshall both made an impact on us. I now have a clearer understanding of the struggles blacks have had. I thought I knew but as I get older I realize it is not as clear as I thought it was. When I was 10 years old we spent 3 months at Camp Gordon located in Augusta Georgia. Our home was in Pasadena CA and we flew back there to be with my dad who was on active reserve duty for the Army. The year was 1952 and I was surprised when we went into Augusta to shop that there were separate drinking fountains and rest rooms for black people. I can still remember asking my mom why the black people were treated like that.

I was very disappointed. It's entertaining and the acting is excellent, but the plot is just a rehashing of To Kill a Mockingbird. Marshall's life, and his enormous impact, feel neglected by this movie. This movie merely skims the surface of the drama and passion it could have portrayed.

excellent movie! Great true story without being too preachy or overly sentimental. Chadwick continues to prove his acting chops in every role he takes... good pacing, good message... highly recommend!

entertains as a courtroom drama while revealing the racist milieu in which that drama took place.
completely different than I was expecting (the blow-by-blow of Marshall's life) and very good watch
