Once more Nursebob gave an excellent review/comment to this "Carrie 1976" derivative. And in this Norwegian version, a young woman experienced "non-epileptic" seizures which seemed to unleash great "subconscious psychokinetic power." As explained by a doctor in the film: "Psychological non-epileptic seizures is a very misunderstood disorder. ... For 3,000 years, people believed it was something supernatural. That you were being invaded -- or posessed by witches who punished the sick. The word "seizure" means being posessed by external powers, -- either gods or demons, depending on what century they were living in."

I like it when I keep thinking about a movie after I watch it, and that was the case with this one. It started out really strong with the opening scene, and I kept wondering when that scene was going to be explained--which didn't happen until later in the movie. Some of the movie was a little confusing and it left me with some questions, but over all I thought it was interesting and worth the watch.

Not bad, but the writing left a lot to be desired, leaving it uneven and frequently confusing.

Mostly yet an another wildly overrated critical darling and full out yawner of movie. A Euro version of Stephen King's Carrie if you take out all the interesting parts and have very slow arty takes on everything. Not really horror, not really a character study, not really a drama but a kind of muddled narrative where it tries all three and fails. The story is a bit problematic as with a lot of fiction lately is that it skirts very close to becoming hate speech at some moments. Just not a good movie.

Raging hormones and Christian guilt always make for a great story and in Joachim Trier’s paranormal sci-fi horror show they’ve never looked so good together. Like a nordic hybrid of "Carrie" and Ursula K. Le Guin’s "The Lathe of Heaven", Trier’s psychosexual thriller takes adolescent rebellion to a new level with erotic metaphors and an Electra complex gone wild. Healthy sensuality is twisted into reptilian visions, God the Father is not picking up, and sexual arousal is as horrifying as demonic possession. But whether this is a tale of religious damnation or Freudian integration is left up to you. Some may see the ghosts of Bergman and Tarkovsky blowing through Trier’s work, personally I favour Rod Serling and Brian De Palma.
