Nice little cozy. An easy fast read.

The books in this series are not great literature, but I really like the characters. While Diesel is the one who caused me to start reading this series, I have become fond of the human characters as well.

I do have a couple of observations about this series: First, the series is set in a sleepy college town in Mississippi, but they certainly have a very high murder rate! Usually the victim is a visitor or recent arrival, but still! I would not think that frequent murders would be a great marketing tool for the college.

Second, the murder victim is usually an obnoxious person that is disliked by everyone. It is difficult not to feel that the murderer has performed a public service in getting rid of this jerk. Of course, things are not so tidy in real life.

To be honest, I care less about the murder mystery than I do about hearing what the regular characters are up to, but I did think the plot of this book was very clever. This may be one of the best books in the series so far. I give it 4-4.5 stars.

If you like cats, books, libraries, and/or nice people, you would probably enjoy this series. Again, it is a pleasant break from real life. As always, I recommend reading this series in order for maximum enjoyment.

I enjoyed this "cozy mystery". I like the relationships between the people, and between the people and the pets. I was actually surprised by the ending. I'll look for more of these.

I liked the story and way it flowed...at times a little redundant but overall a good cozy mystery with Charles and Diesel his buddy/cat/companion. Love the idea of a cat on a leash and "talking" to those who praise and pet him!!

This is Book 8 of the Cat in the Stacks series. My first (and probably last) encounter with “lighthearted librarian Charlie Harris” and his Maine Coon Diesel.

What a disappointment, because the title is so appealing. I like cats. I like libraries and librarians. I like mysteries. But the writing style in this “cozy mystery” is plodding; the characterization, repetitive and painfully simplistic; the dialog, dull as ditchwater.

The plot (with its twelve angry librarians) is fine. The execution is what killed me.
