Kevin Spacey isn't the kind of person who should be making movies. His performances have always had a squeamish feel about them. Now we know why, his behavior that came to light this past year has shown an ill person who needs help, not enabling.

This drama film stars Nicholas Hoult, Zoey Deutch, Kevin Spacey, Sarah Paulson, and many more. The movie is about the author who wrote the novel “The Catcher in the Rye”, who moves on to live a very private and secluded life. I feel like this is the kind of movie that you either love or hate depending on your feelings towards the actual novel, since it had a very polarizing story and characters as well. Occasionally scenes were slow paced and somewhat boring, but Hoult delivered an amazing performance that really showed off his acting abilities. I would rate this film 3.5/5 stars and recommend it to those who like these kind of films. @The_Reviewer of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board

A fascinating portrait of J.D. Salinger, excellent performances by both Nicholas Hoult and Kevin Spacey. Amazing!

I am glad a movie was finally done about this man. Very interesting and I finally know why his book was titled Catcher in the Rye. I think I will read it again.

Very interesting portrayal of an complex artistic genius who captured the attention of generations of readers. Apt title for an enigma--- the likes of which we may never see again. BRAVO!

Excellent portrayal of J. D. Salinger and the lifelong effects of World War II upon such a talented man. We have all probably read "Catcher in the Rye" and knew that Salinger stopped publishing and became a virtual recluse, but many of us are / were unaware of his history and that he credited his preoccupation with Holden Caulfield for getting him through the horrors of war. Highly recommend. Kristi & Abby Tabby

Hoult delivers a very grown up performance of one of America's greatest and yet least known novelist's; his reluctance to be popularized by society, his struggled search for peace and the willingness to give up ever publishing another word and live solely in, of and for his own form of Truth.

This is an interesting and involving biopic of the reclusive author of Catcher in the Rye. I found it attractively filmed and giving enough insight into his life, WW2 experiences, struggles with getting published, creative process and personal life.
