When a football player from Riley Donovan's school falls to his death from the top of a recreation center, a hunch makes her wonder if he was pushed. But who would do such a thing, and why? Riley's detective aunt tells Riley to leave it alone, but that's not in Riley's nature. When her friend Charlie is accused of the murder, Riley is determined to clear his name, even if it means confronting vicious junkyard dogs, forming an alliance with an old enemy, and putting her own life in danger.

From Above is a story about a young girl, Riley, thrust into the world of the police after a classmate of hers dies in a sudden and suspicious manner. Taking place in modern day small town Canada, it follows Riley as she must try and prove the innocence of her friend Charlie, and in doing so gets tangled in a drug pushing scheme. The closer she gets to proving the innocence of Charlie, the more she edges towards her own destruction. From Above focuses most on the main character, Riley, as she tries to piece together witness statements, evidence, and her own beliefs to attempt to solve the crime. This book is an easy read, providing little barrier of entry into the crime-solving mystery genre, and promises more novels to come. I recommend this novel to those looking for a simple crime novel or those looking to invest themselves into a series of novels. - Edwin

"Sometimes the only way to get things done is to do them yourself. This is the mindset Riley Donovan has as she collects clues on her own to solve the mystery of how one of her classmates was killed. Overall I enjoyed this book in the sense that I was always wondering what would happen next. It was a fairly quick read with an unpredictable ending that avoided any annoying cliffhangers. The main character thought through each clue in ways that were both logical and genius creating a realistic yet entertaining murder mystery. Although this novel was short, it didn't leave any major plot points unexplained and included intriguing details making it a good choice for a light read." -Lara

From Above, by Norah McClintock is a compelling novel that focuses on the mysterious death of a football player, shrouded in conspiracy and investigation. The book starts off with a teen named Riley, who discovers the death of a local football player named Ethan Crawford. Words from witnesses such as Aunt Ginny state confusing facts that begin to twist the mystery from an accidental death, to a situation where his good friend, Charlie, is accused to being responsible for the death of Ethan. Desperate to clear his name, Riley goes to outside sources in order to come to a conclusion in this mystery. The book was a very fast read, as I was able to read it in about 2 sittings, however it creates a fast paced environment, and the characters are unique (for example Riley is a curious person who has some sass). The plot of the book is very rich, even though the book itself is only a measly 200 pages, the mystery aspect of the book even helps that, and one can get very invested into the story. It contains many twists and much conflict among certain characters. I would recommend this book to those who would want a quick read, but still want aspects of deep, rich story, such as those who are just getting into reading. - Chris

I really like this book by Norah McClintock. This book is about a girl named Riley Donavon who is trying to figure out a case about a boy who fell from the top of a building. But she doesn't know how it happened or who pushed him. Some characters in this book are Riley Donavan, Aunt Ginny, Serena, Andrew (Andes) Maracle, Detective Martin, Charlie and Ethan Crawford. Ethan died after he fell off the top of a rec centre. The question is how? This book happens at Lyle high school and the nearby rec centre. I like how Riley was really determined to clear Charlie’s name from being accused of a crime that charlie says he did not commit. I also like how she never quit even when her Aunt and the police told her to stop worrying about the case. She would not quit and went on to solving the case of Ethan Crawford. One thing I did not like about the book was that there was not that much info about Ethan. The plot of this book is that Ethan Crawford died and there are many suspects of who killed him by pushing off the rec centre. The conflict of the story was that people didn’t want Riley trying to find out who killed Ethan. The setting of the story is at Riley high school the local rec centre, the woods and the roof of the rec centre. I think you would really like this book if you like mystery or action. I HIGHLY recommend this book.

I liked it when in the first chapter how it said that a student that had fell from the roof it hooked me right away because, that’s what you don’t see every day, its surprising .But I didn’t like was that it took a long time to find the killer of Ethan. About the characters the part that I didn’t like was that Charlie was blamed for half of the time and was not allowed to go outside his house due to the blaming and also when they found who the killer who was (the officer) he chased riley around and tried to keep it down using that method but the good part was his aunt was able to come and rescue him and lay down the charges on the killer. A part that I liked was that when riley entered Andes’s house and started inspecting the pictures that were taken on the water tower onto the rec center. That had a spark in me that it is going to open the crime even more. I would recommend this book with 4 stars because in the book its self it has a good pulling start and has a just ending and there are up and downs in the story which made it interesting for the reading
