Lisa Gardner's runaway New York Times bestseller--a fast-paced thrill ride featuring Detective D. D. Warren.

Seven years ago, carefree college student Flora Dane was kidnapped while on spring break. For 472 days, Flora learned just how much one person can endure.

Miraculously alive after her ordeal, Flora has spent the past five years reacquainting herself with the rhythms of normal life, working with her FBI victim advocate, Samuel Keynes. She has a mother who's never stopped loving her, a brother who is scared of the person she's become, and a bedroom wall covered with photos of other girls who've never made it home.

When Boston detective D. D. Warren is called to the scene of a crime--a dead man and the bound, naked woman who killed him--she learns that Flora has tangled with three other suspects since her return to society. Is Flora a victim or a vigilante? And with her firsthand knowledge of criminal behavior, could she hold the key to rescuing a missing college student whose abduction has rocked Boston? When Flora herself disappears, D.D. realizes a far more sinister predator is out there. One who's determined that this time, Flora Dane will never escape. And now it is all up to D. D. Warren to find her.

Read this book in one day - it really kept me guessing until the end! Would love recommendations on which other Detective D. D Warren books are of this calibre.

I like the author books but usually don't give more than 2.5 stars but this book was basically a 4 star. Was a page turner and the last 10-15 chapters you just wanted to know. I usually can pin point the culprit but this time you wondered if Flora could be lost in the head or crazy like her kidnapers or what. Like suspense then read the book.

This book grabbed me from page one right up to the end. Flora has been kidnapped and held for 472 days before she was rescued. She tells her story throughout the book. But while she is telling her story, she is trying to find another girl who was kidnapped. I don't want to give anything away, but this is a must read. I couldn't put it down.

This book was great. D.D.
Warren was a difficult character to like initially - considering Flora a murderer rather than a heroine. The plot was excellent - drawing the reader into the horrors of Flora's captivity and her present need to rescue victims of similar crimes. A must-read - yet another pulse-pounding novel by Gardner

The story held my attention from beginning to end with its twisting plotline and a character struggling to survive and adapt to her circumstances. I enjoy Gardner's style of writing whether to quicken pace or increase emotional tension. Recommend the book to readers who love psychological thrillers.

I agree that DD didn't show much compassion to a victim (especially with all shes been through) but the story was compelling and kept me reading.
One of my favorite authors.

If an author needs to move forward in a story by having an annoying lead character (DD) jump to conclusions (mostly wrong) and wildly accusing people without any evidence whatsoever, in my opinion that's very poor story-telling. The plot has a lot of potential, the telling of the story was mediocre. Right off the bat, it was absurd, suspecting a bound and kidnapped woman of not being a victim but a perpetrator -- with no evidence whatsoever. Waste of my time, and annoying to boot.

This was a fantastic book, and I couldn't figure things out until closer to the end. In the past I have read others like this and was able to figure out the plot before half way. Suspenseful, nail biting and satisfying. Enjoyed the character Flora and thought other characters were well developed too. My first Lisa Gardner book but definitely not my last - 5 stars!
