I'm not from Oregon & had never heard of Tabitha Brown. She became known as "The Mother of Oregon". What a strong & admirable woman she was! I'm so glad I read her story.

This was a an easy read with a smile at the end. There are moments of despair, with pondering thoughts, that I personally could never have survived the "ROAD THEY TRAVELED". I love that at the end of this book there are clear details about the factual events of history and the main character of the book.

Good historical fiction based on the life of Tabitha Moffat Brown who became known as the Mother of Oregon. She traveled the Oregon Trail at age 66 and survived the same terrible winter crossing that claimed the Donner party. The story is written from the perspectives of Tabitha, her daughter, Pherne, and her granddaughter, Virgilia. This book has a slow, leisurely pace but you get a good sense of the pioneer spirit with a strong family bond. I like outdoor adventure stories and I enjoy them all the more when I read them on a snowy winter day.
