The lives of two offbeat twelve year old girls come together near the campus of the Experimental Center for Love and Learning. The Center is the eighth boarding school in eight years that Alice Mayfair has been sent to by her wealthy parents. She's having a hard time fitting in and is looking for a friend. Millie lives in the woods near the Center and just might be the friend that Alice needs. However, Millie is a Yare. That's name used by generations of Bigfoots to refer to themselves. Can two girls from such different backgrounds be friends?

A definite departure from Ms. Weiner's typical writing, but a great 1st kid's lit book for Jennifer.

A humorous and heartwarming tale of a misfit, who finds a friend in the most unlikely of places. This a book about finding friendship and acceptance, no matter who you are.

Surprisingly humorous handling of Bigfoots (a fantasy creature piteously scarce in fantasy literature) and noticeably body positive without being didactic.
