"Amy Krouse Rosenthal has cultivated a distinct blend of nonlinear memoir, observational humor, wistful reflections, and interactive connections with readers. A decade after Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life , she's back with a sublime new work, a timeless collection of insights, memories, and moments that are at once intimate and universal. Why the title Textbook Amy Krouse Rosenthal ?Because each piece of prose is organized into classic subjects such as Social Studies, Music, and Language Arts. Because textbook would accurately describe a book with a first-of-its-kind interactive text messaging component. Because textbook is an expression meaning oquintessentialo- Oh, that wordplay and unconventional format is so typical of her, so textbook AKR. Because if an author's previous book has the word encyclopedia in the title, following it up with a textbook would be rather nice. Textbook Amy Krouse Rosenthal speaks to the awe, bewilderment, and poignancy of being alive."

Amy Krouse Rosenthal was hilarious in the way she approached anxieties and self-deprecation. She was also daring in the construction of her books. I loved this title and her other book, Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life.

Another uniquely constructed memoir from this most interesting author. Given the year of publication (2016) and her death in March 2017, and the topics of the final chapters, I gather that she knew she was terminally ill. What a loss.

I really enjoyed Amy Krouse's TEDx talk, but I couldn't get into this very eclectic book.

Keep on beckoning the lovely..

"When my life flashes before my eyes, I hope my subconscious turns out to be a skilled curator. It would be unfortunate to be stuck watching a montage of all the times I bent down to pick up those flimsy subscription cards that fall out of magazines."

"Just look at us, all of us, quietly doing our thing and trying to matter. The earnestness is inspiring and heartbreaking at the same time."
