After her mother died and her father walked out, Helen was raised by her older sister Claire. Helen has always believed that her own baby would fill her sense of loss, but after four years of trying to become pregnant is resigned to the fact that she will never be able to bear children. Helen gradually embraces adoption as an alternative, but her bliss at receiving a child is dashed when she learns that Claire has been diagnosed with cancer. As wounds of abandonment are once again torn open, Helen must reconcile her inner feelings and heal her broken spirit.
