Ceres was once covered in ice. Enough water for 1,000 generations. Until Earth and Mars stripped it away for themselves. This station became the most vital port in the Belt. But, the immense wealth and
resources that flow through our gates were never meant for us. Belters work the docks, loading and unloading precious cargo. We fix the pipes and filters that keep this rock living and breathing. We Belters toil and suffer, without hope and without end. And for what? One day, Mars will use its might to wrest control of Ceres from Earth, and Earth will go to war to take it back. It's all the same to us. No matter who controls Ceres, our home, to them, we will always be slaves. That's all we are to the Earthers and Dusters. They built their solar system on our backs, spilled the blood of a million of our brothers. But in their eyes, we're not even human anymore. So, the next time you look in the mirror, say the word. Slave.
Miller: If the price of justice is more innocent blood, then I don't want it.
Amos: I thought so. A guy with big ideas, wanna take on the bad guys, so long as it doesn't cost him anything.
Belter: Why are you doing this? Impound our haul and there's nothing left for your taxman.
boarder: Oh, are we being too hard on you? Should we cut you a break?
Belter: We are just tryin' to feed our families, okay?
boarder: I'll tell you what I'm gonna do for you... Absolutely nothing.
Belter: What god gives you the right to life's riches, huh? You set up your zones and tell us where we can and cannot go. You living belly-full, with your glass palaces, while half my people are starving to death. How is this justice?
Chrisjen: How about this one? James Holden was conceived by a cult of political extremists as a trick for eight people to claim generational land rights. Kicked out of the Navy, he fell in with a radical fringe group in the Belt because it reminded him of home. I can make shit up, too.
Miller: I'm gonna take a trip.
Octavia: To where?
Miller: Eros. Yeah, I'm gonna, uh, see the sights.
Octavia: What sights? Miller, Eros is a garbage dump.
Kenzo: I am just a guy trying to do my job, like you and your people. I have family out there, too. If you can look at yourself in the mirror, and still decide that you're gonna toss me into space, because I'm inconvenient to you then at least you can do me the respect of telling me that it's gonna happen.
Holden: And mercy is not in the cards for me. So I can make my peace.
Kenzo: Because I am not an animal either.
Naomi: I'm tired of rolling the dice.
Holden: This whole trip is a gamble.
Amos: I'm not gonna lie to you. Either way this plays out, you're dead. And I'm the one that's gonna bring you the good news. You're a loose end. It's nothin' personal.
Kenzo: Just like that, huh?
Amos: Like water's wet. Sky's up.
Kenzo: Must be nice to have life all figured out like that.
Amos: It has nothing to do with me. We're just caught up in the churn, is all.
Kenzo: I have no idea what you just said.
Amos: This boss I used to work for in Baltimore, he called it the churn. When the rules of the game change.
Kenzo: What game?
Amos: The only game. Survival. When the jungle tears itself down, and builds itself into somethin' new. Guys like you and me, we end up dead. It doesn't really mean anything. Or we happen to live through it, and well, that doesn't mean anything either.
Semi: You seem sober. That's the biggest surprise of the night.
Miller: Oh, I was chasing down a lead.
Semi: Judging by the footprint on that dock master's chest, I'd say you were stomping on a lead.
Miller: She deserved to be helped. Not everybody does, you know. Some people aren't worth saving. I'm sorry to say, sir, that the brass sends me cases like Julie's when they don't want 'em solved. They took away all the cards. Didn't even want me to bring her home...
Dawes: I was never fighting against you, Miller. In fact I was fighting for you.
Miller: Yeah, I was thinking that when your goons were tossing me in the airlock.
Dawes: You were thinking about me then? Hmm. I'm honored. Usually, when a man is about to lose everything, he realizes what mattered to him most. He sees it clearly for the first time.
Miller: I see everything I need to see.
Dawes: Maybe you haven't lost everything yet, huh? When you do, you will know your way home. And it will welcome you.
Traveler: Uh. Forgive me for saying so, but I don't get the impression you're a man who's accepted Jesus Christ into his heart.
Miller: I guess I'm just not that desperate.
Traveler: We all are. If we're being honest with ourselves.
EMF reflection, practically zero across all main bands. It's nice stealth tech.
Semi: Anyway, what do you know about this kid?
Miller: Why she's on Eros?
Semi: Trust your gut before your head gets in the way.
Miller: Yeah, yeah, I used to spout off all kinds of bullshit back in the day. Like how the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
Semi: Look, when I got kicked off the force, I gave you that hat so you'd keep your head, not make the same mistakes I did.
Miller: Oh, I must have forgot it back on Ceres.
Semi: Yeah, you forgot it back on Ceres. And now you're following this girl out to the ass-crack of the solar system, huh? Get yourself fired. Yeah, what in your head even tells you that this girl's lookin' to get rescued?
Semi: The mech shafts? Half those things are collapsed. I've been a cop here for years, I can't even find my way through that maze.
Naomi: Which is why the OPA uses them as smuggling routes. On every station, Eros included.
-This is gonna get ugly.
-I'm getting used to ugly.
Frederick: ... Some people won't believe that coming from me, because of who I am. I accept that. None of us can change the things we've done. But we can all change what we do next. I've seen battle. I've taken many lives. I've been the oppressor, and I know his mind. And now I hear the drumbeats of war. It's the sound of lies and the love of power, and I cannot stand idly by. ... Our language has changed, the things we care about have changed, even our bodies have changed. We look upon each other as different and we've grown to hate each other for that. And now someone, somewhere, for some ungodly reason wants the whole, sad lot of us to fight and die. ...
Naomi: Holden: We saved a few. We should've saved more.
Holden: We will.
Chrisjen: I will be (safe,) for a time. So long as I play a familiar role, the stubborn old woman, eyes locked on yesterday's game too blind to see the world has passed her by.
Mars will accuse Earth of using a bio weapon. Earth will claim it was Mars. The Belt will blame the other two. It's a good way to start a war and to cover it up.
Miller: We know the game's rigged. It's been rigged from the start. Always has been. You know, me and Semi, when our hands were small enough, we used to reach into these machines, grab the chips that got caught in the chute. It was enough to feed a couple of street rats for a week. But you know, one day, your hand gets too big and it gets stuck. Got a hell of a beating out of it.
Holden: And naturally, you evolved into cops?
Miller: That was Semi's idea. He said, "you wanna be an ass or you wanna be a boot?"
