I spent an hour trying to work out why this book is totally inauthentic into the male experience and why there is an argument against voice appropriation and it all disappeared. So, this is a gay writer using a feminine style of writing, that is, an eye for detail but lacking any emotional resonance--in a word-- overwritten. On top of it all, he's unable to project the fear of exposure, nor express sexual attraction. As I said--totally inauthentic and emotionally hollow. Hell, I didn't even get to the point where Daisy is run over by a lawn mower. I wonder how much aging authors like White, Leavitt and lesser known ones are paid for writing misleading blurbs--wish publishers could be fined for false advertising.

** spoiler alert ** I stopped reading when the dog was mauled by the lawnmower.
