This beginning chapter book is great for five to eight-year-olds, and even keeps the attention of older reluctant or struggling readers. It uses kid-speak and, as an adult, it whisks you away to a simpler time when the big challenges were being the new kid in class and surviving cafeteria mystery meat. Nice large text, pictures on every 2-page spread, often more than one, makes use of all typical superhero devices and connects with the child as they imagine someone like themselves becoming a superhero and saving their family/town/school. Good for those who enjoy Magic Tree House, Junie B. Jones, and Eerie Elementary.
This is a series, so be prepared for more laughs and adventure!

I read about this series online, where it was recommended for boys around 6 who were losing interest in reading. And although my 5 year old son still loves reading, I thought it might be a fun read... And yes! It is! Although, as a parent, this isn't my favourite series to read, my son really really loves Captain Awesome and has been inspired to create his own super hero squad with his junior K friends. I definitely recommend this series for children who are 5-8 years old.
