For fans of Emily Giffin, another wonderful book from the author of the #1 New York Times bestseller, The Husband's Secret ...

Ellen O'Farrell is a professional hypnotherapist who works out of the eccentric beachfront home she inherited from her grandparents. It's a nice life, except for her tumultuous relationship history. She's stoic about it, but at this point, Ellen wouldn't mind a lasting one. When she meets Patrick, she's optimistic. He's attractive, single, employed, and best of all, he seems to like her back. Then comes that dreaded moment: He thinks they should have a talk.

Braced for the worst, Ellen is pleasantly surprised. It turns out that Patrick's ex-girlfriend is stalking him. Ellen thinks, Actually, that's kind of interesting . She's dating someone worth stalking. She's intrigued by the woman's motives. In fact, she'd even love to meet her.

Ellen doesn't know it, but she already has.

Overall a very interesting story, something I did not feel like I've "read before"

The Hypnotist’s Love Story was yet another great book by Liane Moriarty! I didn’t want to put it down! The characters are well thought out and likeable even when you don’t want them to be!

I quite liked this book. It does not have the complicated story lines we see in "Big Little Lies" or "Truly Madly Guilty", but there are two compelling women that tell their stories, some interesting twists along the way and in the end both women get a version of happily ever after that they might not have expected.

Ellen O'Farrell works as a hypnotherapist so she knows how to stay calm and centered. However, when she falls in love with Patrick, things get tense because his ex-girlfriend, Saskia, is stalking him and masquerading as one of Ellen's clients. If that's not enough, Ellen becomes an instant stepmom to Jack and must also deal with Patrick's feelings for his seemingly perfect dead wife. It's a warm and witty look at how love can turn an orderly life upside-down. — Ann P., Maple Grove Library

Enjoyable, as all Liane Moriarty's books are! This one kept me turning the pages until the very end.

Love Liane Moriarty books. Having said that, I feel this book was not as good as her other books. Maybe a bit to drawn out.

Too slow for me. Boring. Not as good as her other books.

It is totally worth going back to this early novel from Liane Moriarty now an acclaimed bestselling
author . With brio and empathy she makes all the characters of this book engaging and likable even
the so called “villain” … A refreshing and delightful read .

I thoroughly enjoyed this book (and did so with a sigh of relief, as I had been struggling to find books as engaging as Jodi Picoult's ever since I finished reading all of hers).
I found this one to be perceptive as we “watched” the thoughts of Ellen, a successful hypnotherapist, who believes in the power of the mind, as her own body and mind took her to situations in which she thought she would naturally have had an advantage. She is insightful when reflecting on the actions and feelings of the other characters but, as no one really knows another person, those characters' thoughts and actions were not always what Ellen would have predicted. The other characters' actions were however consistent with the events in their past (which we learn about gradually).
Yes, the ending was a bit too tidy, but it did not go where I had been imagining it might (and that would have been too implausible).

I struggled to finish this one as it dragged on. I will continue to read author's books because I loved some of her others.

"I thought Patrick was my perfect love story. Except he's not. He's the hypnotist's love story. I'm the ex-girlfriend in the hypnotist's love story. Not the heroine. I'm only a minor character.
Or perhaps I'm the villain." Thoughts of stalker, p 238.
