My Paris Kitchen
Recipes and Stories
Book - 2014
A collection of stories and 100 sweet and savory French-inspired recipes from Chez Panisse pastry chef turned popular food blogger David Lebovitz, reflecting the way modern Parisians eat today and featuring lush photography taken around Paris and in David's Parisian kitchen.
French cooking has come a long way since the days of Escoffier. The culinary culture of France has changed and the current generation of French cooks, most notably in Paris, are incorporating ingredients and techniques from around the world. In My Paris Kitchen, David Lebovitz remasters the French classics, introduces lesser known French fare, and presents 100 recipes using ingredients foraged in the ethnic neighborhoods of Paris. Stories told in David's trademark style describe the quirks, trials, and joys of cooking, shopping, and eating in France, while food and location photographs reveal modern life in Paris.

Our August 2016 selection, My Paris Kitchen was a huge hit for all of our participants. Filled with stories and pictures, this title made you feel like you were in Paris. Though filled with French recipes, none were too complex and Lebovitz takes the time to explain techniques that may not be familiar to home cooks. Bonus sections include creating a perfect cheese plate, source index and a pantry guide. Recipe hits were plentiful and misses had more to do with taste preferences than bad recipes. Our only complaint was that the font was small for the kitchen. We recommend this book for the cook, the cookbook reader and those that need an armchair vacation.
Simple yet elegant recipes mixed with enviable stories about living, cooking and eating in Paris.
EuSei,
Don't forgo your dream of visiting Paris. It is a wonderful city and the food is amazing. It is also a beautiful city and I have had rare instances of poor manners.
This is a "personal" cookbook about the author's own experience cooking in Paris, and so it's not as comprehensive as some cookbooks, but the recipes are great and Lebovitz is a great storyteller.
A very interesting book, with incredible recipes and beautiful pictures of Paris—and food. David is also a great prose writer. The stories he tells about his first kitchen and precarious conditions in which he worked, are hilarious and, at the same time, endearing. Yet, his descriptions of his snobbish friends made me rethink my dream of visiting Paris one day… These Parisians ridicule and belittle even their fellow French, mind you! David obviously is a very, very patient man, for sure!
Beautifully written. Loved the stories that accompany each recipe. And the pictures of Paris are gorgeous.
