Normally, I would explain--in some detail--about what I liked and disliked in a film that I watched. I can't do it here because I liked "Mud" without reservation--liked everything from its screenplay to its cinematography, from its brilliant cast ( McConaughey has never acted better) to its editing and direction. I haven't enjoyed and admired a film so much in many, many months.

Matthew M. is not an intriguing actor.
The two young actors were the highlight of a very slow, plotless movie.Reese Witherspoon talents were extremely wasted sitting in a hotel room and shopping in a Piggly Wiggly. Not enough explanation of plot.Left viewer sitting there very bored.Do not recommend to anyone.

This was a surprisingly good movie. Not slow spot in it anywhere. Well acted. Novel story line.

I highly recommend Mud, especially for fans of independent films since it is very slow moving. For me, the best parts are its cinematography, setting and young actors' performances. The music by Ben Nichols, guitarist/lead singer of Lucero and brother of the film's writer/director Jeff Nichols, is the perfect accompaniment also. This is my favorite film by Jeff Nichols (Loving, Midnight Special, Take Shelter, Shotgun Stories). It reminds me of Stand By Me and feels like a tall tale: the legend of Mud. Sam Shepard's performance is great also. Michael Shannon's character provides a little comic relief in this very tense film. Mud is rated PG-13 for some violence, sexual references, language, thematic elements and smoking.

Not a fabulous movie but interesting. The young boys playing the leads were great and Mathew McConnaughy was OK but it was a strange story.

This disc is scratched and would not play on our DVD. We did not realize it was only a 7 day checkout so now the library is charging us several dollars in late fee. Do not use this library, major rip-off. Library customer service did not help us, they only want the money while giving a bad product.

Intriguing film! The acting was very captivating both actors that played Neckbone and Ellis were very convincing in their relationship as best friends. Matthew McConaughey playing mud was also very interesting as he portrayed this young man hiding out on an island attempting to get back together with his girlfriend while dodging men trying to track down and kill him. The connection between Ellis and Mud is apparent especially since he’s at the same age at which Mud fell in love with Juniper. They both seem to have a close understanding and knowledge of what love is. The setting itself of a small town in Eastern Arkansas is so suiting for a movie covering such a topic and the cinematography was done exceptionally well. Overall the movie does a great job of introducing characters to the audience and giving you a reason to want to know more about each character. - @magicsoup of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

It all works out far too neatly (and rather unbelievably) for me at the end, but the ride to get there is definitely worth it. The peek into life on the Mississippi river alone is worth the watch. McConaughey's character is highly compelling (in spite of being repellently filthy most of the movie - although his nearly white shirt is somehow always pristine, go figure). A shout out to Michael Shannon too, who never fails to hit the mark, even in a bit part.
