Enjoyed this book...although I’m a die hard fan of Philippa Gregory...this book was good. A very good read on a snowy day. Looking forward to reading the next two books of this trilogy.
The world is filled with what ifs? In this tale of the Tudor dynasty; What if Anne Boleyn had delivered of a son and hadn't miscarried? Henry IX or William; William is the new king of England after the death of Henry VIII. Anne survives in this time-line to see her children grow-up and ascend to the throne. But there is a catch, that might up end the legitimacy of William's reign. We are given two best friends that act as conscious and love interest for William and Elizabeth. Minuette and Dominic: a lady and solider whom it seems are coming to terms with the love of the other, whilst their King tries to deal with his own growing infatuation with Minuette. Littered with intrigue, subterfuge, and war (of the heart and political). It's a quick read (it being only twenty chapters) there are times that Andersen's writing gets bogged down trying to describe every little detail of court life and the moments when the companions aren't trying to fight a war and a battle at home. The battles scences and the banter between them are what keep the book from sounding like history class. I'm not a big fan of love-triangles, but if you are this book is definable for you. It's a good beach, thunderstorm or lazy afternoon read.
