When a young Israeli woman suddenly goes missing, her boyfriend, an American nuclear engineer, suspects her disappearance is connected to her tantalizing theory about the haunting fortress of Masada -- a place where secrets have been concealed for centuries.

He decides to travel to Herod's 2000-year-old-mountain fortress to test her theory. Could she have been right? There, he makes a discovery so astonishing that forces from the dark side of Israeli intelligence begin to converge on him to deflect his pursuit of the truth by any means necessary.

With the aid of an Israeli archaeologist, he struggles to bring to light the age-old treasures he believes have been hidden in the mountain. But he's dealing with a lot more than old secrets. There are much more contemporary mysteries at stake - mysteries that will put him - and all he holds dear - in grave danger.

Thriller readers have come to expect pulse-thumping excitement from P. T. Deutermann, and that's exactly what they'll get in The Last Man.

If you can't dazzle them with brains, baffle them with bullshit.

We Israelis take a certain cold comfort in the history of Metsada.

A good story with good history. I learned a lot about Masada (Metsada) and the Jewish people.
