In the four years since Monica Brooks moved to Cedar Key to take over her mother's knitting shop, she has found a home, a husband, and a business to nurture. But newlyweds Monica and Adam are blind-sided when a social worker contacts Adam to tell him that his ex-wife has been deemed an unfit mother, and that custody of eight-year-old Clarissa is being transferred to him. Normally an easy-going, even-keeled woman, Monica has doubts about her parenting ability. Yet in a place like Cedar Key, nobody has to go it alone. Friends and relatives begin to forge a close-knit family of their own- one that will need to be strong enough to prop the fragile family up when more surprises come their way. -- Cover, p. 4.

The second book in the Cedar Key series finds Monica Brooks, 4 years after moving there to take over her mother's knitting shop, now married and and doing well with the shop. The couple's blindsided when a social worker informs them that his ex-wife has been deemed an unfit mother and custody of their 8 yr old daughter Clarissa is being given to him. Monica's uneasy about her ability to handle parenthood. Everyone pitches in to help. Suddenly, however, a new challenge arises, as the couple finds themselves pregnant--with twins! They haven't even gotten past Clarissa's resentment of Monica yet. The story of how the town rallies around to help the family become a real family by the time the twins are born is a heart-warming one.

I like this close knit family! (Couldn't resist that.) This 2nd book in the series is not as good as the first. But I do think I'll read the next just to see what's in store for the somewhat quirky characters in Cedar Key.
