I enjoyed this movie. Yes, it does have some suffering and some good moments. I loved this movie and book.

if you'd find it uplifting to see someone worse off than yourself, this might be the film to watch.

Unfortunately, this DVD would not play (region issues?) Never had issues playing DVDs from the CPL before.

Impressive acting, shall read the book as suggested.

I’m not a huge Woody Harrelson fan. And Naomi Watts with her $700.00 haircut made to look messy. The book was so much better. The movie didn’t capture the abject poverty and hopelessness. That Jeannette Walls hair was red growing up…

My therapist recommended this book. Much of it hit too close to home. The book is much more in depth. Please read the book first.

Based on the book by Jeanette Walls of a loving but dysfunctional family. There was honesty in the portrayal of the father played by Woody Harrelson. There are difficult scenes to watch. Families are complicated.

I thought that this movie was a fabulous representation of the book. I loved the "Special Features" section with the deleted scenes, how the original song was written, and the interview with the author.

This true story is a complicated tale of contradictions. I read the book years ago, and remember really liking it. I have never been a big fan of Woody Harrelson, but he played this part so well. His character made me so angry. Because…

This is one of the most depressing movies I have ever watched, plus the sad ending. A waste of two hours.

An idealized, fragmented adaptation of the excellent memoir by Jeannette Walls. The movie does not have the same effect as the book does. The child actors are very good. Not a bad movie on its own but I am glad I read the book.

The movie followed the book pretty well. Problem was they tried to make the Mom an angel and she was just as to blame as the drunk father.

The book is infinitely better.

I hadn't heard anything about this movie before watching (or the book). Really powerful acting performances by all - especially Woody Harrelson (I don't think anyone else could have pulled this off). Fascinating, warm, funny, then…

I liked this biography DVD. Chronicling the adventures of an eccentric, resilient and tight-knit family. A remarkable story of unconditional love. A young woman who, influenced by the joyfully wild nature of her deeply dysfunctional…

Looked like a good move - Woody Harrelson is one of the best - could not get it to play on two different systems Think the library needs to sort this out -

Not as good as the book; they left out almost everything from the first half of the book, I guess because those things happened in the western states. (WV must have been the main attraction in the movie because it's the stereotypical image…

Difficult to believe this is a true story, but it was. It's amazing that the children made it out with normal lives of their own. Woody H was great in this role. Jennifer Lawrence was originally cast to play the mother, but backed out.

Wonderful performance by Woody Harrelson. The think the role of the mother could have been better cast. I was surprised how well the book was transformed into the movie.

Emotional, deep, full circle as she understands, holds on to, discards, reflects sad, painful, happy memories of her Father and family childhood till she leaves for college. This family painfully poor and dysfunctional drew a few tears…
