Saoirse Ronan is stunning in this beautiful romantic movie I really enjoyed . One is gripped right away by a moving Irish song which gives the tone and message of the story: the longing all immigrants always feel for their homeland .

I love this movie. The acting was superb and the colors of the scenes, costumes, sets were so beautiful. The story held my attention & I was sad the movie had to end. I loved the innocence of that time period. This innocence has been…

As they would say in Ireland, "A grand story, and a grand fillum!" Good acting by all. Great scenes of Enniscorthy, County Wexford. Almost everything outside Ireland was filmed in Montreal! Eilis put herself in an untenable position by not…

This story reminds me of a situation I was in when I visited another country and relatives there wanted me to stay and teach English for a living. I was torn. I returned home but part of me was still there. I remember thinking, I don't…

I grew up in the 1950s so it brought back a lot of memories for me. Oh those days of wearing nylons before pantyhose was invented. Women wore dresses and i dont remember if dress pants were even available for women. Most everyone went to…

When I saw this for the first time I loved it so much that I couldn't wait to see it again. I should have left well enough alone. The second time it seemed to drag and I didn't enjoy it much at all. That being said, it's worth seeing once.…

I appreciated this movie more the second time I watched it as I could concentrate more on the details of the movie rather than thinking about what was going to happen next. The acting was great. The story was believable. I appreciated…

Rated 6/10. A slightly above average drama set in the 1950s. Unfortunately, the rushed ending spoiled it for me. After an incident, the decisions the main character made then did not ring true. Overall, the acting and the sets were…

Directed by John Crowley in 2015 based on the 2009 novel of the same name by Irish author Colm Tóibín, this romantic drama depicts the story of a young Irish woman who immigrates to Brooklyn, where she falls in love. It turnes out to be…

I'm not much of a movie watcher ... I either fall asleep or fast forward or give up entirely. This movie held my interest & was different in some ways, so I recommend it to others like me who want something a little different. Good acting;…

It was okay with some twists and surprises at every turn; However, I fail to comprehend how this simple film was nominated for those academy awards? Anyhow, it was a slow start but picked up later. The lead actress was good. Overall a…

A slow start I'll admit, but stick with it. This is a beautiful and moving story of love. Not just romantic love, but love for family and one's country as well. I cried multiple times and most movies don't make me cry anymore. Saoirse…

VERY GOOD 2015 romantic film with Saoirise Ronan as Irish immigrant in 50's New York.

This should be mandatory reading/viewing for every first generation immigrant, their families, friends, and anyone who knows them. The movie beautifully portrays every day feelings of being torn between two worlds, and never knowing where…

Very, very good. I love Saoirse Ronan's accent... :) I also love the clothes. I have a weakness for the 50's.

A sweet, heartfelt film that will engage you fully while you are watching and stay with you for days after. Suitable for multi-generational audiences - my 80+ year-old mother loved it. Also timely, as it offers a point of comparison for…

This is a beautifully shot, engaging movie. Nominated for best picture in 2015 for good reason. My wife and I both liked this movie.

Perhaps this film should have been titled "Ireland", rather than "Brooklyn." While her cultural adaptation takes place in the borough, there is little if any internal conflict, other than the somewhat expected and almost predictable home…

I found it interesting that one of the commentators couldn't understand the conflict Eilis experienced in this film. It was the most fundamental conflict possible - changing from a culture that she knew to an unknown one with all the…
