This, sadly, is one of the prototypes for drama series these days: find a premise, add a lot of young actors that are easy on the eyes, sex it up and throw in gratuitous nudity. Make a soapy drama and stretch out the storyline - because more episodes equal more money for the show's producers. In this case it takes the better part of ten episodes to see off Anne Boleyn. Seven or eight too many in my opinion.

These shows also play fast and loose with history, so one is left wondering how much of the story you can actually trust. I see a few people comment that it is "okay" to add fictional elements, because it makes for better drama, but when dealing with an already extraordinary story, I don't agree that it is necessary to add unbelievable subplots, as it only serves to water down any degree of verisimilitude.

If you're looking for a really good drama based on Henry VIII, try Wolf Hall. It covers half the plot of the entire Tudors in only six well-acted, beautifully written and subtly directed episodes. The Tudors, on the other hand, is for undiscerning audiences only.

darker themes and actions, choppy storytelling and long boring passages ... not the best season.

I enjoy the development of the character Princess Mary. I am also happy to see what happened to Mr. Cromwell. The character Lord Brandon develops in a very sad way. I'm interested to watch and see what happens to him in the final season. I'm afraid he may face the same ending as Cromwell, he's so evil.

I'm not sure why I continue to watch this show. I hated it during the 2nd season, and this one was even worse. The actor that plays Henry is horrible, and the pace of the show is ridiculously slow. Unfortunately, I feel like of come too far to stop now. Look forward to my depressing 4th season post soon to come...

My least favourite season, but still good.

Season three is a continuation of Henry's rule and his many wives, six by the time he's done. Some comments here have panned the acting, history, etc. However, two points to consider. First, this is supposed to be entertainment not a history lesson. Henry's era was dirty, dingy and disease ridden. The writers added some fictional events to spice up the story. Second, many viewer's comments
are positive so many found it worth watching. It's easy to criticize fiction that incorrectly depicts history, but it's another thing to make a story interesting for the viewer. This is entertainment at its best.

Not as good as Season 2, but certainly better than Season 1 and certainly more historically accurate than S1 as well. No need for spoiler tags since everyone knows what happened, but I thought the Jane Seymour bit lasted a couple of episodes too long. Loved the Anne of Cleves segment. Anne has been almost but ignored by historians, so it was nice to see a version of her fleshed out by singer Joss Stone, and I don't even like Joss Stone. It's also interesting to see the younger version of the future Queen Mary. My main complaint is that the actor playing Henry was too vain to actually try and look like King Henry at that time, which wasn't very attractive to the ladies.

Lot's of sex and nudity of the female kind, so certainly not appropriate for the youngsters

Dreadful compared to seasons 1 and 2. 3 of 10 stars

King Henry is even more vicious than in 2nd season. I could not wait to see this. It had been so juicy. And the costumes are just jaw dropping!
