Powerful, gripping, and--be warned--rife with gratuitous violence and torture. A dark imagination spawned a great story, but with an emotional toll and taste for suffering that few may actually find palatable. I really wish the story relied upon less explicit violence and damage upon which to base its characters' motivations. Threats of violence or neglect can be as ample/explainable motivators as depravity and torture. These give us pause and give rise to questions of sadism and misogyny on the part of the author.
This author is severely overlooked by most reviews - go to Wikipedia & check out "Thomas Covenant" series - IF you can find them in print - Very good reading!!!!!
The Real Story ---- The Gap into Conflict ---- by Stephen R. Donaldson c - 1991 ---- A real good story. ---- Enjoy! ---- RichardPaul
