National Watermelon Month with Mercy Health

1:00 PM – 2:00 PM
Main

Description

First cultivated over 5,000 years ago in Northeast Africa, watermelon has a rich agricultural history and is now enjoyed around the world. It’s been grown in North America since the 1600s, with July marking the peak of its harvest season. This healthy, versatile summer fruit is entirely edible, including the rind. Participants will prepare a nutritious dish using watermelon rind and sample creative ways to enjoy the fruit.

Participants will be provided with a container for their creation and resources for healthy eating.(This program is being repeated on July 25th. Please do not sign up for both programs.)

Presenter: Jessica Romeo, MHHS, RDN, LD, Community Health Educator, Mercy Health. Community Health Events programming is supported by the Mercy Health Foundation of the Mahoning Valley.
